Being a creative director at a marketing agency involves solving problems for a diverse range of clients. In this role, I had the opportunity to work with a talented team of designers, web developers, and videographers, to create innovative campaigns and products that effectively communicated our clients' messages. This position allowed me to blend creativity with strategic thinking to drive successful marketing initiatives.

Problem-solving

Clients typically come to an agency for the same reason: We need help. Creative problem-solving helps clients stay focused on the business, while the agency learns the need, researches the potential outcomes and develops strategies to help clients meet the need.

Example: The Owensboro Symphony Orchestra was wanting a rebrand. After meetings to understand the need, research to understand the name and audience, the strategy was set to simplify the name and redesign the look. The new Owensboro Symphony brand won an Addy Award in 2021 and is now an eye-catcher in regional advertising.

project management

In today’s era, digital marketing is a very popular medium in advertising which every agency is a part of, but Tanner+West isn’t merely a digital marketing company. It also operates as a publishing firm for magazines, a web development & hosting platform, and a photography & video production studio. Some clients take advantage of everything, asking for custom designed logos, websites, social media plans, print-ads in magazines, staff photos, and video ads. The cross-functional work across teams to plan for production releases and targeted dates can easily become overwhelming, but thanks to project management applications like ClickUp, all teams can keep each project’s deadline on track.

marketing isn’t a guessing game,
but IT is FUN TO PLAY

videography

At Tanner+West, I discovered that video production is an art. David Grinnell taught me to find unique angles with proper lighting. He and owner Jason Tanner already excelled in producing award-winning videos. I enjoyed watching them, learning, and adding graphics and animation to their work. Using Premiere and After Effects also improved my skills in video, sound, and animation, helping me create better video ads for social media.

Working in an agency showed me the importance of performance. It's not just about advertising; everything must perform well to make the investment worthwhile. While perfection varies by viewer, performance is based on results. Tanner+West helped me understand that professional work leads to eye-catching results that elevate brands and makes them shine.
